Kan rag Kernow

The Kan rag Kernow is an annual songcompetition to find a song in the Cornish language to representCornwall at the Pan Celtic Festival in Ireland, which takes placeevery spring. Cornwall has met with success in recent years, TheChanging Room swept the board in 2015 and singer Benjad won in 2013and 2012.

Image of The Changing RoomEntries to the Kan rag Kernow competition should be newlycomposed especially for the competition and are welcomed in anygenre of music.  All songs must also be written and performedin Cornish and, if you would like to enter the competition but feelyou don’t have sufficient knowledge of the language to write lyricsin Cornish yourself, MAGA can help by assigning you a translator towork with you on your song, free of charge.

Shortlisted entries to the Kan rag Kernow competition competeagainst one another at a live concert in Cornwall every year, wherea panel of judges decides which song will go on to representCornwall in Ireland.

In 2015, Looe based band, The Changing Room wonKan Rag Kernow (#KanragKernow) in January at the Penventon Hotel inRedruth and went on to win all three prizes at the Pan CelticFestival: best traditional band, best new song in traditionalstyle, and the International Pan Celtic Song Contest.
