Cornwall CouncilIn November 2009 members of the Cabinetagreed a Cornish language policy for Cornwall Council.
The policy, which was proposed by the Partnership, includes theextension of bilingual signage to the whole of Cornwall and ensuresthat Council departments will give consideration to the use ofCornish in a wide range of applications. The full policy isavailable to download below. Bilingual signage in Cornwall was first promoted by KerrierDistrict Council and then extended to Carrick. The Council systemwill work in the same way as Kerrier in that it will apply to newand replacement signs, so that there is no cost implication in thebilingual policy. This work in Kerrier was facilitated by a language Panel. MAGAhas now formed a panel to carry out this function for the whole ofCornwall in response to requests from the council, building on theexperience in Kerrier. We look forward to working more closely with council departmentsto begin to deliver the new policy, and to more Cornish in councilpublications, where appropriate. | ||
